For self study

I purchased this book for self-study of the finite element method. I had a natural vibrations problem of a curved-beam under rotation (for a wind turbine) and I had no experience in finite elements so I looked at several texts (Bathe, Huebner, Zienkiewicz). For many reasons I picked this book. It was very easy to read, and the organization was amenable to my learning style. The author provides information at just the right moment when you need it, such as different numerical methods for solving these problems. And when you need further details, the reference list is right there for you. His description of the overall formulations, such as variational methods, are very clear and simple, especially if you have been trying to understand these by looking at other texts. And then he segues very well into the application with the finite elements.

The first topic I looked at in this book was the derivation of the space frame element, which was exactly what I needed for my vibrations problem. This derivation was in the middle of the text and I was able to understand the development without having to review previous sections. The programs are also very handy, even if they are written in old FORTRAN. I will definitely look at Rao's other books in the future.

This book by Dr. S.S. Rao has many COMPLETE programs, a significant departure from all those books which tell you the easy part of the program and leave the rest as an "exercise for the reader". The references provided at the end of each chapter are alone worth the price of this book.

Perfect for Student Nurse

This book is written in a clear format and is helping me a great deal in my nursing classes. My text book is literally 1800 pages and is written in small print. This book is 400 pages and covers almost all of the same material in a much clearer format. Will seriously consider buying other books from the demystified series when the time comes.

Great Resource

You know when a book tells you it has 7 chapter objectives and you find yourself searching for where they discuss them? This book gives you the objectives, then in the text will put the number of the objective within the passage to signify it's location! Obviously with being a fundamentals book it initially starts with boring nursing history but then it has sections on pretty much all the topics of fundamentals. The text is HUGE in this book, great for my tired nursing-student eyes. Included are neat "Nursing Alerts". The book is in black/grey scale, and blue, while there aren't a ton of pictures they're very helpful. At the beginning of the section there are the "key terms" listed but there is not a glossary in the back, the terms are bold in the passages and typically clearly defined but there isn't a separate section listing all the terms' definitions.

All you Need to Pass the Test

I bought the Peerless Study Guide for the California contractor's license exam when it was recommended by a woman specializing in technical books for contractors. The subject matter is very dry. But if you work through a few pages every day over about two months, you will find yourself at the exam well prepared and confident. Peerless has numerous test exam questions in every chapter. For most of the questions, I took to heart the suggestion that I read only the correct answers (which are conveniently given at the bottom of every quiz page), and this helped set my memory with the right information.

In my case, I took a supplementary weekend cram course that I found valuable for the Law and Business portion of the exam, but it wasn't necessary if you are careful to read this book and take the practice exams a couple of times.

Avoid!

I am completely astonished with the poor quality of this book. There are typos everywhere and the questions and answers sections are full of incorrect answers! How in the world can a company publish a study guide that is riddled with inaccurate information like this?? Amazing that this company would even issue this book! It seems as though it was proof read by an illiterate person with no knowledge of the electrical code, or perhaps not even proof read at all.

Passed first time with no study but this book. Very informative, maybe too informative. Touched every subject that was asked on the exam. Well worth the price and a keeper to fall back on and review forgotten subject areas. I spread the reading out within a three month period and crunched in all the practice exams day before and couple hours before the exam.

Reminds them that they are important and special and loved and not alone and written in a way that when they just need to feel hey, I am okay, there is a page that helps them relate. I have bought 3 already and plan to buy more as nieces and friends reach those impoortant teenage years.
