Brilliant addition to the series

Yet another superb book by John Ebert which sheds new light and insight into the discourse of this Ridley Scott film, and the book it was based on by P K Dick. It expands the reengineered mythical roles of the characters and their parts in the same but future process, and uses the scenarios - scenes to exemplify the analogies in metaphysical/biologic form. Would have loved there to have been more and could have listed a number of suggested ideas/views and hidden meanings (many of which I had missed totally), and intended or otherwise. But then you can go too far into these things and it is sometimes best to simply try and highlight the obvious in what is being shown, which these days it seems everyone is blind to, even when they think they are awake - unlike the owl.

The author has done an awesome job of combining the syntax and semantics into one book. Normally when someone firstly starts writing production quality code, he/she does not thinks of the after affects of the code. Only after gaining years of experience does this quality comes in. But the author has made the reader think in this direction. The reader will not only learn how to CODE but will learn HOW to code in a way that maintainence of code is not an issue.

Also the author has touched on various issues which are normally not taught in college text books but a person only learns from his own experience.

All in all, i highly recommend this book especially to all the college student or people who are not satisfied in their current roles and are looking to acquire more skills and work on better systems.

"Hello World" is a good and practical guide for students entering the software industry. The book has the following chapters:

3) Code compilation & Output viewing
4) Understanding Code
5) Dexterous Debugging
6) Program analysis and Some More Important Tools
7) Software Testing
8) Version Control System
9) Defect Tracking
10) Product Shipment Cycle

There are 3 appendices covering Error Handling in Java, Installing open source software and Integrating cscope with vim.

There are step by step guidelines in most of the chapters listed above, supplemented with code snippets and screenshots.

The authors have used their insights gained over a few years, from their professional work in leading software companies. A new entrant to this industry, especially students would find this book very handy in terms of how to make the transition from theory to practice, from textbooks to shipped code.

How did this brilliant gem go so long without applause and acclaim? Pure Gold without equal

Brilliantly researched, well thought out, magnificent references; this book about the golden ratio, i.e. the Platonic logo(logos!)rithmic section (republic 509d-511) is a genuine supreme masterwork.

To prospective amazon buyers of this book, it must be said that there is absolutely no question that you will aught but love this book and it is impossible that you will regret the purchase of this book.

This book contains research on greek arithmetic's that you absolutely cannot find in ANY other book on the topic; I say this with certainty since I own every book ever published on said topic. An absolute must must own book.

A tour through Euclid

The right way to think about the golden ratio is not as the decimal expansion 1.618... or even as the positive solution of x^2-x-1=0, but as a particular way of cutting a line AB, "division in extreme and mean ratio" (DEMR): cut a line AB at a point C such that AB:AC = AC:CB. The original title of the book was "A Mathematical History of Division in Extreme and Mean Ratio". The first part of this book lays out the propositions in Euclid that have to do with DEMR. What is especially useful about the book is listing for each proposition what propositions it uses and what propositions it is used for. DEMR is not a small topic in the Elements, and following this path is a nice way to go through the Elements without having to digest the whole work.

Mildly disappointing

I was surprised by and enjoyed Tanner's first book in the Keepers series. This second installment was close to being solid as the first save for a very lengthy dreamlike sequence that I found annoyingly difficult to follow and not at all entertaining. Hers would have been a better read kept as a short story without the interlude.

`A Big Lie isn't the least bit convincing when you're in it.'

Life seems to be returning to normal, in the city of Jewel, after the upheaval some months earlier (as related in the `Museum of Thieves'). Goldie Roth is both a trained thief and a skilful liar, and she should also be one of the Keepers of the Museum of Dunt, together with her friend Toadspit. But while Goldie desperately wants to be a Keeper, her parents are ill after their time in the House of Repentance, and she does not want to leave them.

'In the last few months she had had more than a dozen messages from the museum, asking when she was going to take up her position as Fifth Keeper. Tonight she would reply. 'Never.'
But on the way the Museum, with Toadspit and his sister Bonnie, Goldie is forced to leave the city of Jewel. Bonnie is kidnapped. Toadspit and Goldie follow the kidnappers, as they travel to the city of Spoke by ship, and Toadspit is also captured along the way.

How will Bonnie save her friends? The kidnappers have some dangerous secrets and some powerful friends. Bonnie becomes caught up in Spoke's Festival of Lies, and will need all of her skills and abilities in order to survive and to save Toadspit and Bonnie. In the meantime, the Fugleman has returned to Jewel: can he really be a reformed character?
I really enjoyed this second instalment of `The Keepers' trilogy. Goldie meets some interesting people in Spoke (I especially liked Mouse), and each chapter includes wonderful character drawings that are the perfect accompaniment to the story. I'm looking forward to the final instalment, scheduled for publication in 2012.

While The Keepers trilogy is primarily aimed at 9 to 12 year olds, many older readers will enjoy it as well. I did.

This series now one of my favorites

I preread lots of books that I want for my kids.This series has messages for the adults and the kids about hard work, caring about each other,being true to ourselves, and doing the right thing...all amidst a page turning adventure of a very real feeling set of kid heros. I also love the not-so-thinly veiled warning to grownups about the dangers of not letting kids find their own wings. Wonderful setting too- I found myself reliving my childhood adventures, sneeking around the museum where my parents volunteered, peeking into cupboards when no one was looking.
